Variation-A and the Fog of “Normal”

Why do I call this site Variation-A? Simple: I believe Asperger syndrome isn’t a disorder to be folded into something else. It’s a variation — of the species, of the wiring, of the lens through which we navigate the world.

If you’ve ever lived with Asperger syndrome, or loved someone who has, you know what I mean by the fog. Social rules others navigate without a thought are for us like driving in a whiteout — you can move forward, but you’re never quite sure you’re moving in the right direction.

That’s the fog.

This site isn’t about academic theories or medical debates. I’m not an expert in “the spectrum.” I’m only an expert in myself — seven decades of walking through the fog and occasionally laughing at how ridiculous it all looks from the inside.

So why Variation-A? Because sometimes the best way to explain ourselves is not as broken versions of “normal,” but as variations of human. Different, yes. Dysfunctional, no.

I’ll be sharing thoughts here — sometimes serious, sometimes parody, sometimes just the kind of truth to make one laugh. If it rings true, welcome. If it rattles you a little; welcome to my world.
